Why online?
Online physiotherapy was created with YOU in mind.

Who is it for?

Online physiotherapy is for everybody. Outside of the traditional models of hands-on physiotherapy, online physiotherapy provides an approach based more on education & advice, coaching, and self-management techniques. Unlike the old-fashioned models of physiotherapy which promote passive treatments and short-term fixes, modern physiotherapy promotes self-efficacy and long-term results.

(Self-efficacy refers to an individual's belief in his or her capacity to execute behaviours necessary to produce specific performance attainments (Bandura, 1977, 1986, 1997))

How does it work?

It's easy. All you need to do is book an appointment through my Book Online page. If you are a new patient you must book an "Initial Consult". This is a 45 minute appointment geared towards assessing your issues and formulating a plan of action. If you are experiencing pain and are in need of some guidance go ahead and book your 1st appointment so we can get started! Click here to go to book a Consult

If you are a returning patient you will need to book a "Physiotherapy Follow-up" appointment. This is a 30 minute appointment. Click here to book a Follow-Up

After you make an appointment all you need is a good wifi connection, a quiet place to take the appointment, and 30-60 minutes depending on your appointment. Once you make the appointment a confirmation email will be sent to you with a link for the video call. The video call will take place on the secure healthcare platform of doxy.me.

How can you assess me without touching me?

Whether you go to physiotherapy in person or online, your 1st appointment or consult will always begin with listening to your story followed up with some questions. Physiotherapists around the world are highly skilled in recognising patterns of symptoms according to the description you give of your problem/issue at hand. We are also trained to ask questions to help us acquire information that can help up to make sense of your problem. Luckily most issues can be diagnosed just from the interview. If further information is needed it is very easy to ask the client to perform certain movements or to try different exercises to get even more information. Touching a person to understand the problem is usually a very small and limited part of a diagnosis.

How can you treat me without touching me?
There is no doubt that it feels good to have a massage or to rub a sore muscle, but this is little more than short-term relief. While this can certainly be a valuable part of treatment it’s not something that necessarily needs to be done by the physio. There are many at-home techniques to self-massage or help ease muscle tension. What’s even better about this is that you don’t have to wait for your appointment to get them. You can implement them at home exactly when you need them.

More and more physiotherapists are moving away from such “passive” techniques like massage, manual therapy, and modalities like TENS machines or Ultrasounds because research has shown that these treatments just don’t help in the long-term. What research does show is that long-term treatment approaches including education, exercise and self-management techniques work better and help you stay better longer.
If I believe that online physiotherapy is not suitable to your condition then I can refer you to a clinic that is better suited for your needs. We strive at thoughtful physio to work together with you to reach your goals, so if you feel that we’re not the right fit for you, that’s okay, you need to decide what is best for you.
If you are unsure if online physiotherapy is right for you, you can always send a message and let us know you concerns. Click here to send a message.
Why I created Thoughtful Physio
I created this platform to be able to reach a demographic of patients that maybe otherwise couldn’t access care. Think rural populations, busy people with too little time. But I also created this platform to give people choice. With online physiotherapy, you can access care from wherever you are. Instead of being restricted to a physical location you can access care at your convenience.

Online physiotherapy is the future

I believe that when people/companies realise how much work they can actually get done without having to pay for physical offices life as we know it will change. I think naturally people will move more away from the cities into bigger homes with more space around them. When this happens they will rely on online services to acces care they may not have access to. Virtual appointments are the future because they are efficient, convenient, easy, and cheaper. You won’t have to waste time getting from one place to another or sitting in the waiting room once you get there. You get to access care from the comfort of your home and don’t have to plan your whole day around your appointment that you need to get to. It’s cheaper since you won’t be paying for transport, gas or wasting time that could otherwise be spent on your own work. You benefit because you will have more time to spend doing the things you love, like spending more time with your family.
